Thalia is sitting beneath a tree in a park and reading the Orphic Hymn to Hermes in Attic Greek from a very well worn paperback. She's collected several books in her travels but has only kept a few (Hesoid's Works and Days and Theogony, Ovid's Metamorphoses, both the Homeric and Orphic Hymns and the Iliad) with her. She tried reading other, more academic books (such as Landscapes, Gender and Ritual Space or Greek Religion) but she found she couldn't focus on them long enough to understand them very well. But the stories she practically devoured.

It was a surprise to her the first time she picked up a book written in modern Greek (though she didn't know that at the time) and found she could understand most of it. What was even more surprising was when she found a book with Attic Greek writing and found she could read all of it.

Looking up from the book she checked the position fo the sun and realized she had better find a place to sleep soon. The sun would be going down and she'd discovered that the deeper into the woods of the park she goes, the better she sleeps. You also needed to find a different place each night or the police or worse would find you.

Turning back to the book, she spots a boy walking towards her and stands. She's not sure if this is going to be trouble but she knows better than to run away. She'd just look weak and make herself a target.

He stops a good six feet from her and, gesturing to her book, says, "The Orphic Hymns? Good read. I especially like the one for Hermes."

When she doesn't say anything he glances away a little nervously, "My name's Luke. Can I buy you a hot dog?"
